ProtoPlay, Blank Arcade, and DIGRA: 8/5/2016 update

The DIGRA panel I was on about translating classic literature into games went perfectly. I’m currently looking into if there are any recordings or transcripts of the panel. Even better was the opening night for Blank Arcade. “You Must be 18 or Older to Enter” was very well received. Our Own Storm’s booth at ProtoPlay conference came together spectacularly, thanks to the aesthetic design  and layout of Joe Cox.

7/31/2016 Update

Everything is about to become extremely busy. This upcoming Tuesday, I’ll be on a panel at DIGRA-FDG conference here in Dundee Scotland about strategies to convert classic literature into games along side Sam Roberts and Tracy Fullerton. Wednesday is the opening night of Blank Arcade, where my game “You Must be 18 or Older to Enter” will be on display. Thursday is opening day for ProtoPlay Conference, where both Temporality and Our Own Storm will be displayed. Until ProtoPlay’s close on Sunday, I’ll be working our games’ booths. The image here is of “You Must be 18 or Older to Enter’s” set up at Blank Arcade.

7/25/2016 Update

Several games are underway. Most prominently, I’m working on Our Own Storm for Dare ProtoPlay next week. It won’t be released any time soon, about 25% of the game is currently complete and as my final year in USC’s game design program is coming up (my thesis year), I’ll have another large undertaking consuming my time. However, “You Must be 18 or Older to Enter” only has about a month worth of work left. Besides those, there’s quite a few smaller projects I’d love to wrap up in the coming weeks.

Final year making 100-games-in-5-years and final 21 games

Only a year remains in my 5 year challenge. With the recently featured Gamasutra and IndieGames articles about my goal, I feel a bit reinvigorated. With 21 games remaining, I’m not too far behind target and still feel like I can make it. Main obstacle in my way now is my final year in USC’s game design graduate program, where I will be spending the year designing and making one larger scale game. On a related note, I hope to post a weekly update about the challenge. I plan on publishing a Gamasutra piece soon about the challenge as well as releasing this game.

Dare to be Digital & Digra 2016

Today begins the first day of mandatory development time in Dundee Scotland for Dare to Be Digital. Largest difference between now and when I first arrived is that all of the Dare teams are now in town so our work space will be twice as busy. I’m here as part of Team Our Own Storm, working on Our Own Storm. We’ll be working on the game through August and showing it at Dare Protoplay early in August. It’s a bit of a triple dip as DIGRA conference overlaps Protoplay in both dates and location, and I’ll be on a panel at DIGRA and have a game (You Must be 18 or Older to Enter) being shown in DIGRA’s Blank Arcade. If all goes well, I should also have two other games shown at Protoplay (Temporality and You Must be 18 or Older to Enter).
